ANCIENT OSTIA TOUR - SURROUNDING AREAS OF ROME - PRIVATE TOURS IN ROME

ROME OUTSKIRTS

Our Ancient Ostia tour will have you leaving Rome with an official licensed driver and tour guide while traveling along the coast for around 30 minutes to explore the ancient city of Ostia. During its day, Ostia was a prosperous Roman city during the Imperial Age. Set upon the beautiful mouth of the Tiber River it flourished with trade and was a very prominent business center.

Today, visitors can enjoy going back into the history of this ancient city, which was established about 42 BC by King Anco Marzio. As you travel to the Ancient Ostia, you will fall in love with the countryside and of course, the magnificent view of the water that embraces the coastline. As our tour guide gives you a detailed account of the city you are about to explore.

You will travel down the Via delle Tombe which takes you to one of gates into the city. Once inside you will be at the Terme di Nettune where you will view the mosaics depicting Neptune and Amphitrite, along with the theatre and forum built by Agrippa. You will also enjoy the Museo Ostiense at the end of Via dei Dipinti that is home to several ancient mosaics and sculptures that were found in the ruins.

The
Ancient Ostia is similar to that of Pompeii but is closer to Rome so it allows visitors that only have a short time to visit the surrounding areas of Rome to embrace another ancient city that is marvelously preserved. The ruins of this ancient city and its culture can be captured through the detailed history described by your own personal tour guide.

You will, through our
private tour, be able to embrace what it was like to live in this ancient city of Ostia.

It is best to wear comfortable clothing and shoes as you will be exploring the ruins and high heels are not the best for climbing and walking.
